SEPTEMBER SIXTEENTH TWO THOUSAND ONE

9/16
The day in which we lost producer Samuel Z. Arkoff, one of the most important pioneers of the cinema, who invented the ARKOFF Formula, the key to making movies. For a movie to be successful it must include: Action, Revolution, Killing , Oratory, Fantasy, and Fornication.
----Norman Mailer.

I killed Arkoff with a picture of a Campbell's Soup can!

9/16 TRUTH
The World Trade Center never existed. It was a hologram, projected non-stop into the sky since the early 70's. Mass hypnosis and hyper-modern special effects caused the world to believe in the Twin Towers. I should know. I worked the projector for five years.

I always had a feeling about those towers. Half of my mornings looking out my window at Broadway and Grand, my world ended at Canal St. The sky was gray and towerless. The first time I drove onto the island----I could not see the island, only grayness against the black water. I took ten pictures to be sure. I have been to the observation deck but felt I was going to throw up so had to go. Now it all makes more sense.

SEAN WOLF HILL 1974-2001
Born in the Pro Football Hall of Fame parking lot and died in the first-class compartment of Flight 77, Sean Wolf Hill rose to prominence in 1994 when Life Magazine featured him on the cover of their "Xerox Magazines Take Over" issue. In voluntary exile on a beach in Sri Lanka, Hill wrote twenty-five world best-sellers, including "The Jesus Orgy" and "Snuff Movie: A Romantic Comedy."

Inscribed at the base of his statue in Canton, Ohio is the entirety of his last phone call: "The Death is a stone-cold mother-fucking drag."
----Darius Smith.

September 16, 1908
That date, in the year 1908, will live in infamy as the day General Motors was founded. Of course there are many as equally guilty parties, but it's easier for people to have one Hitler, rather than a dozen, and so why not just focus on "The General"--the self-proclaimed leader of the pack of those directly responsible of bringing on mankind the worst plague in history, the automobile.
----Norman Mailer.

Chevrolet, Buick, Pontiac, the late Oldsmobile, Cadillac, Geo, Saturn, Hummer, GMC all define our beloved superpower homeland. You can always drive a Ford (Focus!!) or Chrysler (LeBaron!!) instead!

More Quotes From Thoreau
"Most men are engaged in business most of their lives because their soul is a whore in a vacuum and they have not discovered any continuous employment for that is one of man's nobler facilities."
----Henry David Thoreau

Whatever the hell that means. I'm quoting from memory so maybe I fucked it up. Apologies to HDT. But then he's the guy who said "Most men are but tools of their tools." He was onto something, about the human condition, and never had the benefit of Charlie Rose.
----Norman Mailer

2001: A WORTHLESS ODYSSEY
A perfect summer day./The capital of the world./ Boxcutters Shook the World./ ...Skyscrapers no longer scrape sky./All kinds of American Death./All at once./On the television all day./A day like a year./Our new war./Our new knowledge./Our new now.../
Senseless-sudden-annihilation-a-go-go/ ...Nineteen Nihilists, in the Holy Name of Our Negation./Nineteen suicides have shocked us awake..../My resolve, my new mission, my million reasons./In a subway car every unknown face/Seems like a friend's face/For one day./I wish God was alive to see this.
----Darius Smith.

Can't forget 9/18 either!
September 16, 1967: JIMI HENDRIX's first album, "Are You Experienced?" was released.

September 16, 1970: JIMI HENDRIX made his final public appearance.

Then, tragically, on September 18, 1970, JIMI HENDRIX died in his London apartment. (The death certificate listed the cause as "inhalation of vomit due to barbituate intoxication.")

If that isn't weird enough, check this out: Also on September 18, 1970: BLACK SABBATH's Paranoid album was released. Could there be a connection?

Still not convinced?
On September 16, 1977, Marc Bolan died in a car accident at the age of 29.

Don't get me started on September 17.
----Norman Mailer.

Wake Up, People!
Can you be so blind? Never mind the digital TV conspiracy (16:9 being the aspect ratio of HDTV). And forget about John 9:16. And pay no attention to Revelation 9:16 (which quotes the current population of the USA.) You may heed Romans 9:16 ("It does not, therefore, depend on man's desire or effort, but on God's mercy") but that is neither here nor there.

Take a look at, however, Isaiah 9:16, and then try to ignore this momentous date in history. In case you don't have your stolen Gideon's handy, here it is: "For those who guide this people are leading them astray; And those who are guided by them are brought to confusion."
----Norman Mailer.

Play-Doh
September 16, 1956: Play-Doh is unveiled. Even though that might be before most of you were born, you must realize, you are now living in a world of Play-Doh. Our innocence has been forever lost due to this event. The way we think about things like mortality, sculpture and the plastic arts, time management, divinity, and infinity, and play, and dough, has been forever changed. You can't even begin to imagine a world without Play-Doh. Worship it, fear it, ignore it, or despise it, it is always there, just on the edge of your sight-line, waiting to bring you back to the world and make you behave.
----Norman Mailer.

I used to hate it when I'd either forget or when I'd be too lazy to put the colored cap back onto the container which was the "Play-Doh" cylinder...Shortly, resulting in a small, open cardboard cylinder containing a newly petrified glob of "Play-Nothing" crumbs...and I never figured out ANY WAY to "resuscitate" my new flaking mess of this blue, red, orange, or yellow pseudo-clay.

EXPLOSION TUESDAY NIGHT OHIO
John understood nothing. He'd been listening forty-five minutes to a woman talk non-stop about New Thought Unity, her reason for living lately, and he understood nothing of it. He did follow all her points: "present-day mindset," "a worldwide change-of-heart," "God," and it made no sense to him. He thought about how she would be better off addicted to methamphetamine than to "New Thought Unity." When she turned to say "hi" to somebody, John slinked away to the back of the bar-room.

He drank Coca-Cola. He waited for the blast.
----Darius Smith.

4/20
Forget about 9/16. 4/20 is the date to never forget. Which—-okay, I was about to get sidetracked on the concept of forgetting and remembering—-you know that dumb saying about if you can remember the Sixties you weren't really there—-something like that, I forget. Anyway, this article is about 4/20; for the article about the hard core punk band, Disambiguation, click on this non-existent LINK. If it doesn't work, don't blame your MOUSE—which may actually be a rodent, or a controversial cartoon representation of fascism (in general)—-isn't that what they say? Or is that Goofy? No, Goofy is something else entirely. I spent a whole day reading about Goofy on the internet. That is now a LOST DAY. What's worse, there was actually no cannabis involved.

4/20, as you'll all remember, is the date of the Columbine High School shootings, but did you know it was also the date of the Apollo 16 Moon landing (which by then was old hat)? The little known significant event of that particular phase of our space exploration was that it was the first (known) instance of a human being getting high on the Moon. (Because of the use of oxygen and other flammable gases, the indulgence was carried out via a pot brownie.) If that's not enough for you, in 1986, Michael Jordan dropped 63 on the Celtics.

If you were born on this date, besides kind of being a hero with the stoners, you share your special day with none other than Edie Sedgwick, Crispin Hellion Glover, and totally awesome Beer City skateboard giant, Greg Lutzka. Oh, and one of Time Magazine's Most Important People of the 20th Century: Adolf Hitler.
----Norman Mailer.
